Charcoal, Pastel, Oil, and Watercolor

A lifelong Artist, Joyce has been drawing and painting for over 50 years.  She is an accomplished watercolorist and oil painter and has recently begun working in pastels, enjoying the contrast of the softly toned watercolors to the vividly colored pastels. 

Joyce's landscapes invite the viewer to enter the scene and experience the feel of that particular place. Most of her work is done in a loose painterly style with an economy  of detail.    

Besides focusing on a good likeness in her portraits, Joyce tries to show something of the life of her subject. She enjoys formal portraits but prefers to do unposed gesture paintings. The most important element of any of her work is the drawing, the foundation for all the other elements to be done.

  Her work can currently be seen at her gallery in downtown Newcastle, CA where she welcomes visitors.
